Licences worth checking for

In Canada, the only province running a fully regulated open online gambling market is Ontario, where operators must be registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and hold a commercial agreement with iGaming Ontario to legally offer real-money play to Ontario residents. Outside Ontario, Canadian players are typically served by offshore-licensed sites — common licences include the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) for UK-facing brands, and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, based in Quebec. A Curaçao licence is common but offers materially less regulatory oversight than the licences above — worth knowing before treating “licensed” as a single trust signal.

What we check before writing about a bonus term

• Whether the operator publishes its licence number and issuing authority, not just a badge image.
• Whether the bonus terms themselves are published in full, not summarized only in marketing copy.
• Whether the operator’s self-exclusion and deposit-limit tools are actually reachable from the account settings, not just mentioned in a policy page.
